Remote Dog Trainer Guide

With limitations from the first generation of remote dog trainers, manufacturers work to refine their electronic training equipment with a variation of multiple stimulation levels from the handheld remote transmitter. The trainer can now select from one of three intensity levels: high, medium, and low. The benefit of this is the ability to immediately send a signal to the dog to deter the unwanted behavior. We have placed a Remote Dog Trainer Guide here to help you.

Remote Dog Trainer Guide

It is important to consider these important details before buying a Remote Dog Trainer.

  • The Multiple Stimulation Levels

When it comes to the remote handheld transmitter, you want it to have the flexibility to match the stimulation level of your dog's temperament. The intensity level of the corrective pulse must also be appropriate to the size of the dog that will be experiencing it. Larger dogs will need a higher stimulation in order to effectively get the dog’s attention. A smaller dog will not need much stimulation, but will still require a small and lightweight collar. Most remote dog trainers now clearly indicate what size of dog the training collar is intended for.

While there are multiple intensity levels for the remote dog trainer, there are two types of stimulation available on the market today. The first is a continuous stimulation, which is a method of correction that delivers a static correction through the collar to the dog for as long as the button is being pressed from the handheld remote transmitter. The second method of correction is the momentary stimulation that is sometimes referred to as a "nick". The dog will only receive a short and brief electronic pulse, which will be enough to get the dog’s attention and discourage the bad behavior.

  • The Range of the Remote Dog Trainer

It is safe to say that the longer the range of the device the better, but you do not have to commit yourself to more than you will use. The effective range of a remote dog trainer can be effected be the terrain, the environment, and the current line of sight conditions. When you are training your dog in a field, it is best to have a long range remote dog trainer to ensure that a strong and reliable signal is being produced. If you plan on only doing basic dog training in your own back yard, then a transmitter with a 150 to 300 yard range will be enough.

  • The Handheld Transmitter Design

Many people prefer a transmitter that will be small enough to carry in their pockets and lightweight for convenience. Our manufacturers strive to make their transmitters both small and lightweight. However, every dog trainer will have their own personal preferences for what characteristic they desire in a remote dog trainer. The main feature to consider is the resistance and durability of the device. Some handheld transmitters are waterproof, some only water resistant, and some have been rugged punishment tested.

  • The Integrated Collar Design

The remote dog trainer that you purchase should have intelligent engineering with an internal antenna to avoid getting snagged with the dog's body. It is also suggested to get a device that has a waterproof collars. Many of our products have an auto shutoff feature available to prevent unnecessary complications. Also, make sure you get a collar that will fit your dog properly. Otherwise, it will be uncomfortable for the dog to wear and can be distracting too.
